DATE CLAIMER FOR 2012 - FISHING CLASSIC - MARCH 17 AND 18

The Richmond fish stocking association was formed after Lake Fred Tritton was officially open in May 2004, following a community meeting held on Monday the 4th October 2004. at this meeting there were 10 people in attendance and these formed the first committee.

The role of the Richmond Fish Stocking Association includes:
  • Develop fish stocking management plans
  • Select fish species, numbers and size
  • Obtain necessary approvals from DPI&F
  • Carrying approved/permitted stocking operations
  • Providing advise on monitoring the fishery and associated habitat
  • Providing a liaison and educational function (e.g. Kids clinics & fishing days)
  • Organise funding arrangements (e.g. fishing competitions)
  • Participate in consultation processes
  • Participate in monitoring activities (e.g. netting, trapping, creel surveys)

Lake Fred Tritton is a put, grow and take fishery, put grow and take fisheries are created in impoundments where most native sport fish cannot breed. The primary purpose of impoundment stocking is to create or enhance recreational fishing opportunities, and thereby contribute to the local recreational opportunities and tourist related income. The main species used in put grow and take fisheries in North Queensland are Barramundi and Sooty Grunter, both are stocked in Lake Fred Tritton.

Since stocking has started the overnight of tourist stays per night have increased from an average of 1 night per stay to an average 3 night stay, the local caravan park over looks lake Fred Tritton so it is well patronised for this reason.
