Richmond Shire will participate in the plebiscite proposed for all Councils on 20 October 2007.  Despite escaping amalgamation Richmond Shire will support local government and the community’s right to vote. Mayor John Wharton said, this is not just about forced amalgamations, it’s about protecting freedom of speech and the democratic right of all Australians to have a say in their future.
