NATIVE TITLE CANNOT TAKE AWAY OTHER PEOPLE’S RIGHTS
Native title cannot take away your valid rights over land – for example native title cannot be claimed over residential freehold or pastoral leases that grant exclusive possession. In other circumstances Native Title and other interests in land will co-exist. When native title rights conflict with your rights – in most circumstances your rights will prevail. These facts and other important details will be covered at the meeting to answer any concerns you may have about the claim.
You will also be able to decide whether you should register as a party to the claim to protect your interests – which must be registered with the Federal Court before 6 February 2008.
You may need to seek your own legal advice and will be able to find out more about the Commonwealth Assistance Fund to pay for legal advice (depending on the circumstances).
No RSVP required.
Light Refreshments will be available.
